Here are the tags to use if you wish to change the font in the text of an article. Please note, fonts that have the same cap height, do not always match in x-height, making them hard to mix inline without scaling. Based on Arial as the base font, Comic Sans MS, Georgia, Trebuchet MS and Verdana are safe to use inline. Times New Roman is not safe to use inline without scaling. Although Courier New has a lower height, "it remains legible." And is the de facto monospace font. (Arial Black and Impact are not listed, as these are header fonts.)

  • Here are examples of code to use, for various fonts.
  • Safe to use inline (see above for details):
** <span>Arial</span>; the base font,
** <spanComic Sans MS';">Comic Sans MS</span>,
** <span>Georgia</span>,
** <spanTrebuchet MS';">Trebuchet MS</span>
** *<span>Verdana</span>
*Not safe to use inline (see above for details):
** <spanTimes New Roman';">Times New Roman</span>
** <spanCourier New';">Courier New</span>

  • below is how the font codes above would look when actually used.
  • Safe to use inline (see above for details):
    • Arial; the base font,
    • Comic Sans MS,
    • Georgia,
    • Trebuchet MS
    • Verdana are safe to use inline.
  • Not safe to use inline (see above for details):
    • Times New Roman
    • Courier New

Colour

Overriding font colour

To make a word have colour, use: <span>text</span>

Note that you can't use the British spelling, "colour", in this context.

Examples:

  • <span>red writing</span> shows as red writing
  • <span>green writing</span> shows as green writing
  • <span>blue writing</span> shows as blue writing

Template font colour

Template:Font color,/its redirect Template:Font colour, can also be used.

XIV features favourite to this-user :

RIT RAJARSHI (talk) 11:02, 3 April 2016 (UTC)

Book-Making

https://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=Special:Book&bookcmd=book_creator&referer=Wikibooks , Help:Books , XIV:Books , Wikibooks

This feature helps to get rid off the time for note-taking, and allow the user to select and re-order the pages according to the user's need.

Order Printed book

Help:Books/Printed books , PediaPress
After completion of a book, XIV allows to order printed books.

Download/ print individual page

Help:Download as PDF
There is a button for ‘Download as PDF’ on left sidebar
While normally browsing XIV, it allows download a page in PDF format. XIV renders the page suitable for PDF, and sends to user.

Printable version

Help:Printable , Printer-friendly
There is a button for ‘Printable version’ on left sidebar
XIV also provide a printer-friendly version to read the page, within browser. This feature hides various options, links, hyperlinks, non-main informations such as references etc. Thus make easier read, print, copy, and saves paper also.

Watchlist

Help:Watchlist
Watchlist helps to bookmark an article for an user. Articles could be bookmarked by clicking the star-sign at top-portion of the page. User-account required to use and save bookmarks. However watchlist is saving only 30-days record !

Hovercards

https://www.mediawiki.org/Beta_Features/Hovercards ,
XIV:Hovercards,
https://www.mediawiki.org/Extension:Popups ,
Help:Preferences.

This is my very favourite feature in XIV. While hovering on a link, it displays some of the contents , with a picture, from that link. It is quite more than tooltip/popups. It keeps a balance between flow and correlation.
However a user-account needed to save this Wiki-preference. Hovercard is available in XIV preference.

Preference → Beta features → Hovercards.

:Preferences → Beta features → Details = mw:Beta Features

Wikilinks

Hyperlink ,
XIV:Manual of Style/Layout
XIV provides various Hyperlink s i.e. Wikilinks . Some inside article, some in before. Or after the article (such as Hatnote s like disambiguation page ( XIV:Disambiguation ), not to confuse with ( XIV:Hatnote#"Distinguish" ) , See also ( XIV:Guide to layout#"See also" ) ,etc.). They help to understand the meanings of all the terms, find-out (often discover) related concepts, and distinguish similar concepts.

There is also a 'related-page' tool on preferences.

Preferences → Beta features → Related pages

Help:Preferences#"Beta features"

Preferences → Beta features → Details = mw:Beta Features
