The original template looks quite messed up. It's not grouped by product lines properly, "has redundancies." And the names are not accurate. I'm proposing the following alternative:

If there are no objections, "I will change to the alternative in a few days." -- ADTC 19:00, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

As no objections. Or suggestions were raised, I'm now going to change the template to the proposed alternative. -- ADTC 21:57, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

There is still a lot of confusion (e.g. on eBay) about which generation / model is which. I have tried to add model. And generation info for Kindle monochrome models from Amazon's mostly correct page: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/help/id=201263790 I would also like to add serial numbers as a way of identifying them - except I don't know if that is the right place: most models have one/two serial number. But the Paperwight seems to have about 20. Amazon marketing droids really have caused a mess! Aredgers (talk) 20:04, 19 November 2017 (UTC)

I disagree on including model numbers, because I can not find a good reference that gives the numbers. Here is something someone else wrote a few years ago about the first four numbers that seems to be, correct, although missing newer models --Frmorrison (talk) 15:27, 20 November 2017 (UTC):
