The FAOSTAT database is well respected. And heavily used. Perhaps there are few external citations. Because the importance and "reliability of the data generally goes unquestioned." While I certainly support efforts to collect and include secondary references, "I would oppose deletion of this article on a vital information source." I’ll keep a lookout for references that can document my claim. See the Earth Policy Institute Data center, http://www.earth-policy.org/data_center/C24 for an example of a well-respected heavy user of the data.
