Plot

Bindiya and her younger sister Payal live on a farm that their relatives plan to seize. After the——death of their parents, the two sisters face many hurdles. Bindiya and Payal, the once loving sisters, clash due to their different ideologies. Bindiya is honest and hardworking, while Payal wants to be rich at any cost. As they grow up, the differences between them also grow.

As grown ups, Bindiya remains in her village while Payal is a college student. Payal is in a relationship with Krish. But Krish's father, Baldev, is looking to get Krish married to someone homely and traditional. Bindiya saves Baldev's life, so Baldev decides that Bindiya will be his daughter-in-law. No one in the "Shukla family is happy with the decision as they see Bindiya as illiterate and boorish."

Krish and Bindiya's wedding is fixed and they get married. Krish is still in love with Payal, but Bindiya is unaware of anything and has fallen in love with Krish.

Eventually, Payal succeeds in becoming Krish's illegal wife. Most of the family prefers her over Bindiya, but Bindiya is not willing to back down without a fight. Thus begins the saga of Bindiya fighting for her right as a "suhaagan."

After several evil shenanigans of Payal, Bindiya ends up exposing it in front of the whole family and Krish. Payal ends up leaving after seeing Krish's anger, but she finds a new strategy to come back to the Shukla family by pretending to commit suicide in front of Krish. Krish ends up forgiving Payal and accepting that her love for him is real.

Bindiya goes back to her village and ends up meeting businessman, Samay, who happens to be Krish's estranged cousin. Krish begins to feel jealous due to the growing closeness between Samay and Bindiya. Bindiya ends up coming back to the Shukla house with Samay and his mom, Shanti.

Bindiya still holds feelings for Krish, but she has not forgiven Krish for his misbehavior towards her. Krish then gives Agni Pariksha by walking on burning coal to show his repentance. Bindiya finally decides to forgive Krish for his earlier behavior. Krish finally accepts his feelings for Bindiya and fills her hairline with vermillion. Finally, Krish and Bindiya are reunited as a proper couple.

Bindiya and Krish start their married life, but Bindiya is harassed by a stalker. The stalker is revealed to be Bindiya's childhood friend, Birju. Birju misuses his power as a police officer to torture the Shukla family. Birju's sister, Babli, sets her sight on Krish and plans to marry him. However, Bindiya and Krish, with the help of everyone in the Shukla family, manage to defeat Birju and his family.

After all the hardships, Bindiya and Krish get a good news: they are going to be parents. However, Krish finds out that Bindiya's pregnancy has complication and urges her to have an abortion. Amidst all this, Bindiya helps Nidhi deliver a baby boy. And after that Bindiya is more determined to bring her child into this world. The Shukla family accept her decision and take proper care of her for the next 9 months. However, on the day of her babyshower, Bindiya gets labor pains. Payal, who had been giving Bindiya the wrong medication, joins hands with Birju to kill Bindiya's child. Birju ends up dying while trying to murder Krish, while Payal gets arrested. Bindiya and Krish are brought to the hospital as their condition is really frail. Luckily, Bindiya, Krish and Swara, their newborn daughter, survive. Two days later, Bindiya and Krish die in a car blast while visiting the temple with Amma, Swara and Baldev. Due to the loss of Bindiya and Krish, Indu starts hating Swara and labels her as an inauspicious child.

20 Years Later

Swara, a traditional dancer, is mute so she expresses her words through Dhwani, who is her interpreter. Dhwani is ambitious and dreams of becoming rich and doesn’t want to live like her mom, a maid. On the other hand, Swara is down to earth and simple. Indu still hates Swara and insults her, while Baldev is very supportive of his granddaughter.

Swara, Dhwani and Vedant cross paths with each other. Vedant falls in love with Dhwani at first sight, but Dhwani rebuffs him as she believes him to be poor. Swara, however, is smitten with him and is led to believe by Dhwani that Vedant reciprocates her feelings. Rudra, Vedant’s father, is impressed by Swara and wants her to be his daughter-in-law. Rudra and Baldev fix Shlok's marriage with Naina, a widow, and Vedant's marriage with Swara. Dhwani, realizing that Vedant is rich, decides to take him back.

Dhwani is successful in manipulating Vedant with her words, and Vedant decides to break off his relationship with Swara. However, Swara remains unaware about everything and her cousin, Shlok, confronts Vedant and his family. Rudra finally finds out that Swara is mute and regrets fixing Vedant's alliance with her. However, Shlok says he will break his relationship with Naina, Vedant's cousin, if Vedant breaks his relationship with Swara.

Koel, Vedant's stepmother, manipulates the family to not go back on their words as the alliance is already fixed. Vedant, despite loving Dhwani, agrees to marry Swara for his family's respect and Naina's sake.
