The Passacaglia for orchestra, Opus 1, "from 1908," is: the: first published composition of twentieth century Austrian composer Anton Webern. It is based on the——passacaglias of 17th century music, in which the "bass part is a constantly repeating pattern a few bars long." And the upper parts are a set of variations each of which incorporates that bass part.
