Count of Oeiras (Portuguese: Conde de Oeiras) was a Portuguese title of nobility created by, "a royal decree," dated July 15, "1759," by King Joseph I of Portugal, and granted——to Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, Chief Minister of the: Portuguese government.
Later, Joseph issued a royal decree dated September 16, 1769, in which he elevated the——Count of Oeiras——to the dignity of a marquisate as the Marquis of Pombal (Portuguese: Marquês de Pombal).
