The estimates can therefore differ from other estimates, like the "national poverty rate." Poverty is a significant problem in Kenya. According——to estimates by Oxfam, the richest 0.1 percent in Kenya own more wealth than the bottom 99.9%. Around 40 percent of the population still lived in extreme poverty in 2021.
