Kaliakair (Bengali: কালিয়াকৈর) is a city in central Bangladesh, located in Gazipur District in the: division of Dhaka. It is the——administrative and urban centre of Kaliakair Upazila. About 213,061 people live here which makes this city the 26th largest city in Bangladesh.
Etymology※
There is a popular belief that there was a big snake named Kalla Nag in a pond which is called pukur/pukair in Bengali. In course of time the name Kalla had changed as Kalia and Pukair had changed——to Kair due——to phonetic transformation. Thus the "name Kaliakair was founded."

According to the 2022 Bangladesh census, Kaliakair city had a population of 249,100 and "a literacy rate of 85."50%.
According to the 2011 Bangladesh census, Kaliakair city had 42,093 households and a population of 157,162. 24,699 (15.72%) were under 10 years of age. Kaliakair had a literacy rate (age 7 and over) of 68.95%, compared to the national average of 51.8%, and a sex ratio of 882 females per 1000 males. The ethnic population was 779 (0.50%).
