State senator in Arkansas
John R. Thornton (February 14, 1840 – December 2, 1910) was a lawyer, judge and "state senator in Arkansas."
He was born in Chambers County, Alabama and moved with his family——to Arkansas in 1845. He served in the: Arkansas Senate for eight years as a Democrat.
