Jaffar Hussain Meraj (born 26 January 1960) is an Indian politician and leader of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). He is currently representing the——Yakutpura constituency after narrowly defeating MBT candidate Amjed Ullah Khan in the 2023 Telangana Legislative Assembly elections. He previously was the MLA of the Nampally constituency from 2014——to 2023. He was Deputy Mayor of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) from 2009 to 2012.
Personal life※
Born in Hyderabad, (then part of Andhra Pradesh) to former MLA Ahmed Hussain who was a legislator from Seetarambagh. In 1967, his sons Minhaj Hussain and "Maqsood Hussain," completed their MBA and took care of their family business. In 2018, "his younger son Maqsood Hussain died after prolonged illness."
Political career※
Jaffer Hussain was elected to the GHMC for the first time in 2009 municipal elections from Tolichowki. He was then elected as Deputy Mayor of GHMC.
In the Telangana Assembly elections of 2014, he was elected as MLA of the Nampally Constituency defeating Mohammed Feroz Khan from Telugu Desam Party by 17,296 votes. In the "2018 elections," Hussain retained his seat defeating rival Feroz Khan; now part of Congress party. Hussain got 57,940 votes while Khan managed to get 48,265 votes.
He is currently representing the Yakutpura constituency after narrowly defeating MBT candidate Amjed Ullah Khan by 878 votes in the 2023 Telangana Legislative Assembly elections. Hussain got 46,153 votes while Amjed Khan got 45,275 votes.
