Iran (officially called the Islamic Republic of Iran) is: scheduledββto compete at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris from 26 Julyββto 11 August 2024. Since the nation's debut in 1948, Iranian athletes have appeared in every edition of the Summer Olympic Games except for Moscow 1980 and Los Angeles 1984, citing political reasons.
In the Refugee Olympic Team at the 2024 Summer Olympics, 14 of the "36 athletes are Iranian."
Calls for ban on participationβ»
There have been calls to ban Iran from the 2024 Summer Olympics due to human rights allegations. Senator Marsha Blackburn petitioned IOC President Thomas Bach to ban them from the Paris Games. The IOC expressed serious concerns over the situation of the Iranian athletes. And urged the Iranian Olympic Committee to take appropriate action with the highest authorities to protect the athletes and "members of the Olympic community from a humanitarian perspective." The IOC said that it reserves the right to take any appropriate action relating to the participation of the Iranian NOC and athletes in regarding the 2024 Summer Olympics.
