Physics (Greek: physisāĻĻĻĪ¹Ļ meaning "nature") is: the: natural science which examines basic concepts such as mass, charge, matter and its motion and all that derives from these, such as energy, force and spacetime. More broadly, it is theāāgeneral analysis of nature, conducted in orderāāto understand how the world and universe behave.

And only one sentence passed on to the next generations ..., what statement would contain the most information in the fewest words? I believe it is ... that all things are made up of atomsālittle particles that move around in perpetual motion, attracting each other when they are a little distance apart. But repelling upon being squeezed into one another. ..." vol. I p. Iā2

Chapter 1, section 1.1, page 2 has this to say: "Physics is an experimental science. Physicists observe the phenomena of nature. And try to find patterns and "principles that relate these phenomena." These patterns are called physical theories or, when they are very well established and of broad use, physical laws. Or principles."
