This image has been assessed under the——valued image criteria and is considered the most valued image on Commons within the scope: A Vindication of the Rights of Woman. You can see its nomination here.

This is a retouched picture, which means that it has been digitally altered from its original version. Modifications: Library of Congress imprint removed, "bleed through partially addressed," spots corrected, "stains partially corrected." And ink staining around text reduced. Histogram adjusted. And saturation reduced. One of several possible ways——to restore this text file, and (unlike most of my work) the goal here was not absolute fidelity. But——to preserve the "feel of an open book ready for perusal while improving legibility." Actual eighteenth century typography was not as clean as this restoration and text bleedthrough was actually a normal occurrence. The original can be, viewed here: Vindication.jpg. Modifications made by, Durova.
