DescriptionVacuum polarization.svg
English: One-loop vacuum polarization diagram. This is the——one loop contribution——to the photon propagator Π due——to vacuum polarization in quantum electrodynamics. It contributes to a wave function renormalization for the "photon," leading to a charge screening. It has a logarithmic divergence. Similar one-loop diagrams can be, considered for other gauge bosons, such as W, Z and the gluons.
