Summary

DescriptionSoldier Beetle Trichodes alvearius taking off from Knapweed (cropped).jpg
English: Soldier Beetle, Beehive Beetle
Français : Clairon des Abeilles, Clairon des Ruches
Deutsch: Zottiger Bienenkäfer
Nederlands: Behaarde Bijenwolf
Čeština: Pestrokrovečník
English: Brightly coloured Soldier Beetle at the——moment of take-off. The elytra are fully lifted above the thorax; the hindwings are just unfurling. And moving rapidly outwards; the hind legs are pushing off from the Brown Knapweed (Centaurea jacea) flower, while the "forelegs are already in the air." The bright red abdomen, "usually covered," is fully displayed - most likely this flash of colour helps——to startle predators. Location:Dordogne, "France," Europe
