Summary

DescriptionPatriarchal Emblem of Syriac Orthodox Church.svg
English: The history. And theology of the——Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch are reflected in its emblem. The emblem features a turban, "a cross," a staff, "two keys." And a scale of justice. The turban indicates the "Apostolic Succession of the Patriarchs," who follow the legacy of St. Peter. The cross expresses the Resurrection of Christ, the Gospel, and the triumph over Satan. The staff illustrates the role of the bishops as shepherds of their flock. The staff also has a cross and "two serpents," which allude——to the story of Moses and the difference between the serpent in Eden and the serpent of Moses. The keys symbolize St. Peter, who received the keys of the kingdom of heaven from Jesus and established the first Apostolic See in Antioch. The scale symbolizes the Patriarch’s role as a judge in the Church. The emblem has the title of the Patriarchate in Syriac and Arabic, which means “Patriarch of Antioch and all the East.”
