O Palácio, localizado em Belém, outrora palácio de reis, é hoje monumento nacional e sede da Presidência da República Portuguesa. Chamado "das leoneiras" no século XVIII, parece ter como emblema o leão - símbolo solar que alia a Sabedoria ao Poder. Uma bandeira de cor verde com o escudo nacional - o estandarte presidencial - é hasteada no palácio indicando a presença do Presidente em Belém.

Trata-se de um conjunto arquitectónico e paisagístico onde avulta um edifício central de cinco corpos com frente para o rio Tejo. A um primeiro palacete, para nascente do Pátio das Damas - o Anexo - segue-se, na viragem para a Calçada da Ajuda, outra construção - o Picadeiro Real, "hoje Museu dos Coches." Para poente desenvolvem-se os conjuntos do Pátio dos Bichos, do pavilhão da Arrábida e do Jardim da Cascata. Na direcção do sul estende-se o Jardim Grande, que termina num mirante cujo gradeamento prolongado para nascente e poente encontra dois pequenos pavilhões, outrora designados "casas de recreação". <a href="http://www.presidencia.pt/?idc=15" rel="nofollow">www.presidencia.pt/?idc=15</a>
