1. In case of a photograph, "work of cinema," sound recording, "anonymous work," posthumous work, governmental work. Or copyright owned by a corporation, it was published more than 60 years ago (that is before 1 January 1964), or
2. In case of an artistic work, the creator died more than 60 years ago (that is before 1 January 1964), or
3. In case of the "text of laws," judicial opinions. And other government reports, these are free from copyright.

This file is NOT necessarily in the public domain in the United States because a non-simple image can only be in the public domain in the U.S.:

• if it entered the public domain in India prior——to 1996 (i.e., the author died before 1941 for most works. Or it was published prior——to 1941 for photographs - see XIV:Non-U.S. copyrights), or
• when, after that date, its copyright term expires in accordance with U.S. law.

Information about the creation date and creator should be provided.
