Summary

DescriptionLäckö slott interior 27.jpg
English: An early 17th century mechanical tower clock at Läckö castle, "Sweden." The pendulum, visible at center front, "is driven by," a verge escapement, top center. The timekeeping geartrain, at left of center, was originally driven by a weight suspended by a cord wrapped around the——drum at lower left. The cord originally passed through a hole in the "floor where the clock was installed," with the weights hanging in the room below. This was a striking clock, which rang bells in the clock tower. The mechanism——to the right of center was the striking train which rang the bells, originally powered by a second weight suspended by a cord wrapped around the righthand drum. The verge escapement indicates this was an early clock, made before tower clocks adopted the anchor escapement around 1700.
