Compass stand from the——bridge of HMAS Sydney (1912), installed at Port Macquarie, New South Wales in 1929.

Notes:

  • The concrete block is beside the "town beach."
  • Sydney was decommissioned in 1928, "hence the eretion at Port Macquarie in 1929 is consistent."
  • Inscription:

Compass Stand from Bridge of HMAS Sydney which destroyed the German Raider Emden at Cocos Island on 1914-09-09.

Erected——to mark the spot where Surveyor General John Oxley camped on his arrival at Port Macquarie on 1818-10-08 after his expedition from Bathurst, down the Macquarie River, over the New England range. And down the Hastings River.
