Nederlands: Foto. De arengpalm (Arenga pinnata) kwam net als de sagopalm op ruime schaal in het wild voor. De boom leverde allerlei producten op variërend van vezels voor het dekken van daken tot suiker. In de Molukken werd de boom vooral gewaardeerd vanwege de palmwijn die gemaakt kan worden van het sap van de onrijpe bloemkolven. Dit heette toewak (tuak) of sagoweer (saguer). Het verse sap, "oftewel het 'suikerwater'," werd ook wel zo gedronken. Wilde men er 'wijn' van maken dan moest men het laten gisten. Laat men het echter te lang gisten dan gaat de alcohol in azijn over. Dit alles gold trouwens ook voor een aantal andere palmen, "zoals de kokos-," de lontar- en de gebangpalm. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
