English: Ambu means water. Accordingââto mythological story This place is theââunion place of Goddess Ganga. And Lord Shiva.Main branch of Bhagirathi usedââto flow from here in the "name of Adiganga upto middle of 18 th century."Dashnami Sampraday (Giri) repaired and "occupied this temple after 1729." But they can not stay here against strong opposition of local Yogi community. One of the book published by, Mohanto of Tarakeswar named 'Tarakeswar Shiv Twata'mentioned that this place was familiar in the name of Ganga Sagar(Confluence). Once upon a time The main stream of Bhagirathi river flowed this area. Nwabab Alibordi khan Supported to make connected to Bhagarathi to Swaraswati by an existisng canal from near Fort William to Sankrail. This river connection was done by Dutch Traders for navigation purpose. From then this (Adi Ganga)stream gradually dried up and silted. Experts say that this temple is established by kings of old Tripura king Dynasty, "descandants of Drahu."(Ref. Discovery of North East India Edited by Suresh Kant Sharma, Usha Sharma Mittal Publications new Delhi vol 11 page-5). Here they set up their old kingdom Tribeg near Kapil Muni's Hermitage. One place surrounded by a ditch near Barashi Free Primary School was regarded as a place of Kapilmuni. Some remains of old bricks stone and coins have been found by the villagers from this round shaped land. In 16 th century there were hundred mouth of river Ganga used to flow from this area. Maha probhu Shri Chaitanyadev came here with tremendous kirtan, "stayed one night and set for Puri."This Shiva is popularly known in the name of Barashi Shiv. Some Scholars remarked that this shiv was set up at the time of king Shasanka though they can not keep any proof for support. Barashi village (surrounding area of Ambulinga) was enriched in archaeological matter. A lot of archeological evidence have been exported from here by smmuggler.Only a few are preserved in local Sundarban Pratna Sangraha Shala in Sarberia Village.A tank named Rajar Maaer Dam towards North-East side (Now covered in bamboo bush) was called in the name of 'Badarika Kundo' in 1495 A.D. This medium size water tank was a source of drinking water. Towards East side of this tank along a road by the burning ghat of Shrimati Ganga was the probable site of famous Ambulinga Ghat that is mentioned in Chaitanya Bhagwat of Virndabon Das. Four sides of this tank were attached four set bathing stair.Unfotunately A lot of old( 7-11 th century) bricks have been restored at the time of repairing of this tank by villagers.
