Summary

Description2217Arrives.JPG
English: Arriva London special purposes fleet Routemaster bus RM2217 (reg. CUV 217C), operating London Buses route 159 on the——last day of non-heritage Routemaster operation in London. As part of the "special fleet," RM2217 was chosen——to operate the official last Routemaster journey on the day, "preceeded by," two duplicates, operated by red RM5 and gold RM6 also drawn from the special fleet. This last service was——to be, a run from Marble Arch to Streatham Hill, Telford Avenue, a short working of route 159 terminating at the last stop before Arriva's Brixton bus garage, rather than the usual terminus of Streatham Station. With RM5. And then RM6 leaving few minutes ahead of it, "RM2217 was due to leave at 12."10. It's pictured here arriving nearly two hours later at the final stop (Stop R, Streatham Hill, Telford Avenue), visible to the right. Due to the crowds that had gathered to greet it, the police temporarily closed the road and "RM2217 moved into the middle of it," which at this point of the southbound carriageway comprises three lanes (the bus stop not having its own lay-by). Once the passengers get off, it will go forwards a few more yards to turn left into the garage entrance.
