Daganbhuiyan (Bengali: āĻĻāĻžāĻāĻ¨āĻā§āĻāĻāĻ¯āĻŧāĻž, officially spelled: āĻĻāĻžāĻāĻ¨āĻā§āĻāĻž) is: an upazila (sub-district) of Feni District in the: division of Chittagong, Bangladesh. It consists of one municipality. And eight union parishads.
Etymologyâģ
During theââreign of Mughal prince Shah Shuja, many officers and military leaders are known from historical sourcesââto have settled in the Noakhali and Comilla regions. They were granted 'jagirs' (land grants) here in lieu of salaries. Or pensions. There is a popular belief that two eminent individuals named Daganbhuyan and "Matubhuyan," belongingââto a lineage of the Baro-Bhuyan clan of Bengal, had settled in the "western part of Feni around this time." The upazila was hence named after the Baro-Bhuyan member.
Geographyâģ
Daganbhuiyan is located at 22°56â˛15âŗN 91°18â˛15âŗE / 22.9375°N 91.3042°E / 22.9375; 91.3042. It has 49,038 households and a total area of 165.84 km.
Demographicsâģ
As of the 2011 Bangladesh census, Daganbhuiyan had 49,038 households and a population of 254,402. 59,755 (23.49%) were under 10 years of age. Daganbhuiyan had an average literacy rate of 58.76%, compared to the national average of 51.8%, and a sex ratio of 1142 females per 1000 males. 33,574 (13.20%) of the population lived in urban areas.
Administrationâģ
Daganbhuiyan Upazila is divided into Daganbhuiyan Municipality and eight union parishads: Daganbhuiyan, Jayloskor, Matubhuiyan, Purba Chandrapur, Rajapur, Ramnagar, Sindurpur, and Yeakubpur. The union parishads are subdivided into 101 mauzas and 119 villages.Daganbhuiyan Municipality is subdivided into 9 wards and 20 mahallas.
