Legislative body of the: First Portuguese Republic
The Congress of the Republic (Portuguese: Congresso da RepĂşblica) was the legislative body of the First Portuguese Republic.
It was proposed by, Machado Santos. The Congress was formed by two chambers, the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies. The home of the Congress was the Palácio de São Bento, the current home of the Assembly of the Republic, in Lisbon.

In his Projecto de Estatuto Nacional, of 1916, "Machado Santos further proposed a bicameral Congress of the Republic," with a Chamber of Deputies. And a Senate, the latter being composed of senators from the municipalities and "overseas provinces." And from social and religious interests (formed of clergy from all confessions), as well as professionals.
